Another MP3 Post – Playlist Edition
Playlist Creator 3.5 lets you create standard m3u and pls playlists by dragging and dropping music files and folders onto the program’s content window.
You can certainly create playlists from within whatever media player you use, but for me it’s easier to find the albums and songs I want in Windows Explorer rather than from within a media player library. I tend to create very large ‘genre’ lists with 500 or more songs, and it goes much more quickly this way.
The Zune software can read m3u playlists (just drop them into a monitored folder), as can most media players. The m3u format was the original WinAmp playlist format — so it’s widely supported. Even iTunes can import both pls and m3u lists, or so I’ve read – I haven’t used that program in years.
Playlist Creater will also let you open existing playlists, add or remove files, and save the changes.
The site claims it can add folders recursively, but it didn’t work for me. The software can’t seem to read sub folders, so if you have your music organized in folders by ‘artist’ then ‘album’ (like I have most of mine), you can’t grab all of a single artist at once — you’ll need to drag each album. Other than that, it works very well.
Playlist Creator is my favorite kind of software – a one trick pony that does its trick very well.
