Bit.ly Now Default URL Shortener On Twitter

Posted on May 17th, 2009.

As I said in my previous post, Twitter automatically shortened a posted URL for me using the Bit.ly service.  According to TechCrunch, they recently dropped the better-known TinyUrl.com service for Bit.ly, and rumors of a potential acquisition of the relatively new service are floating around.

Bit.ly and TinyUrl.com are both good services not only for twitter, but for email and message board postings (where allowed – unfortunately, spammers also love URL shortening services so some boards block their use).
