Corel Home Office – Lightweight But Lacking

Posted on June 20th, 2009.

Corel Home Office is a lightweight office suite ideal for netbooks and older PCs. The suite is responsive and has a modern feel, with a menu ribbon very similar to the one found in Office 2007. At $70, it’s more affordable than Microsoft Office, but not nearly as robust. On my newish dual core laptop with 4gb of memory, the word processor consistently choked when opening a 600kb Word document (a novel without any sophisticated formatting). However, for day to day use (assuming you aren’t writing a novel), Corel Home Office is an interesting choice. Of course, the OpenOffice.org suite is more powerful and free — but no one has called that application lightweight in a long time.
