Rock Bottom MP3 Players
If you need a basic MP3 player that doesn’t cost much, the Coby 4GB MP3 Player might fit the bill. Amazon has it for $28.72 with free shipping. My wife’s Sansa E220 has a cracked screen, and my daughter needs a cheap MP3 player to tide her over – I may order a couple of these and see if they handle the basics well enough.
The Coby player is small and stylish, looking a little like an iPod Nano. It has a 1.8-Inch color LCD and an FM tuner, and offers support for mp3 and wma audio. It can also display text files and play ‘.mtv’ formatted video files (an obscure video format used on some cheap made-in-China players to avoid licensing costs associated with the mp4 format).
It’s nice to see bargain basement pricing on some of these alternative mp3 players. While you may not get the same user experience offered by more expensive devices, low end gear is good enough for many consumers.
