Windows 7 Gets Badoobled
I just installed Windows 7 on my daughter’s troublesome laptop. It went smoothly enough, although I had to use an old utility boot disc to format the primary partition – for some reason the Windows 7 disk wouldn’t let me format or delete the partition.
There were a few driver issues, as well. The on-board WiFi quit working a few weeks ago, and the old Microsoft USB WiFi adapter doesn’t have Vista drivers, let alone Win 7 drivers. The XP driver seems to be working ok, though. I also had to use XP display drivers (which got the Aero Glass eye candy working nicely) and Vista sound drivers.
Performance seems snappy on the single-core Sempron, even with just 1 GB of RAM. The daughter demanded her laptop back before I got to install anti-virus software or any other applications, so we’ll have to see how that goes, but from what I’ve read, performance should be good enough. She likes green, as you can see…
