I bought the Gateway LT3119u 11.6-Inch Netbook
a few months ago to replace my aging Asus eee 904. It’s a nice machine that pushes the Netbook definition just a little. Gateway shunned the typical Atom processor for this unit, instead shoving in an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor L310 chip. While no speed demon, this chip does offer more performance than the typical Atom cpu. Performance is further enhanced by the integrated ATI Radeon X1270 Graphics and standard 2GB of memory. I actually got World of Warcraft running on this machine, and it’s even playable (barely) with all performance settings turned way down.

Not bad for under $400. The screen is very sharp and bright, and the machine has no problem with internet video. Battery life could be better, but that’s a fair trade-off for the bit of extra performance offered by this netbook.

Campbell Soup recalls 15 million pounds of SpaghettiOs:

WASHINGTON (AP) – Campbell Soup Co. is recalling 15 million pounds of SpaghettiOs with meatballs after a cooker malfunctioned at one of the company’s plants in Texas and left the meat undercooked.
The Agriculture Department announced the recall late Thursday. Campbell spokesman Anthony Sanzio said the company is recalling certain lots of the product manufactured since December 2008 “out of an abundance of caution” because officials don’t know exactly when the cooker at the Paris, Texas, plant malfunctioned. Officials believe it happened recently but aren’t sure, he said.

iPod Touch Gets Free iOS4 Update

It’s old news, but I just noticed that the iOS 4 upgrade will be free for iPod Touch owners as well as iPhone users. In the past, Apple has charged $20 for iPod Touch OS upgrades, a shoddy practice they blamed on accounting requirements. Good for Apple for doing the right thing by their iPod Touch users.
